Piha Beach

Located only 40 minutes drive West, from central Auckland, this picturesque, private and exclusive estate property nestles in a valley at the world famous Piha surfing beach where the scenery and spectacular places to see and enjoy there is magnificent. There are the main beaches, both North and South separated by the Lion Rock Landmark. To the Southern end of the beach is the Camel rock which has the keyhole through it where the sea flows to a channel that links to a stunning area called the Gap there ocean waves crash spectacularly over a semi-submersed rock ledge formation and after an awesome burst of high energy water eruption, water swells into a beautiful lagoon called the Blue Pool and there exists a cute sandy beach where children can play safely all day. To the left of the Blue-pool, siding a rocky ledge is the Blow-hole where water is forced through a long cave and expels with huge momentum in a gush of powerful water and foam. One can sit on a ledge next to the Blow-Hole and experience the sheer force of the water gushing past them at close proximity. This area can be reached by walking along the sand at low tide or by taking the walking track up and over the Tasman look-out. To the Northern end of main beach are the famous Penguin Caves where Blue Penguins did nest but today, while the caves still exist, the shy Penguins can only sometimes be seen. To the extreme North of the beach is a rocky ledge that leads out to the sea. One can walk on the ledge and to the lef is also a lagoon pool where big fish like sting-ray can be seen swimming around. There are many lovely streams and walking tracks at Piha including a trek over to Whites Beach, The Nikau Grove and the Glenesk track to the Kitekite waterfalls. This is only a brief description of Piha. There is so much more to see and enjoy there.

the Property

This is the first time this unique estate has come available to the market after being family owned for four generations.
Set on three full sections totaling 5934m² this magnificent and exclusive property enjoys full privacy with both sea and hillside views. The estate boundaries side natural bush reserves on two sides and the open lawn park like areas bask in the sun while the property is fringed by established native trees, the branches drape gracefully to provide privacy and adequate natural daytime shade. A mountain stream with crystal clear water babbles and chuckles its way through this picturesque property as it flows over a bed of pebbles and stones while native birds flitter and sing from the trees. Tui’s, Fantails, Wood pigeons, Bellbirds, etc, and often cute families of Quail can be seen busily grub hunting on the lawn.
To the West are bush, beach and sea views and at dusk, fabulous sun-set images are seen as the sun slowly merges to the sea and extinguishes as evening falls. Occasional night calls of owls can then be herd echoing down the valley until dawn when the early morning sun begins with a gentle glow along the tree covered hills to the East. This is just a magnificent place to be at.

Buildings

The first thing you will see as you enter the property down the long elegant driveway is the bridge that crosses the fern graced stream which leads to the first dwelling. A 70 year old cottage which has been developed and added to over the years. It has two bedrooms, kitchen, nice living area, toilet and bathroom, a garage and extra toilet and shower facilities that can be accessed from the outside so when people come home all sandy from the beach, they can clean up before entering the house. This simple dwelling has a charm about it that provides an atmosphere of holiday living in a picturesque setting.
The second dwelling is set on top of a rise that overlooks both the estate to the East and the beach to the West. This dwelling also has two bedrooms on the upper level nice living areas and a basement area underneath but one has to say that the structure of this building is no longer up to the magnificence of the property on which it is placed and definitely lends itself for re-development of a new much grander structure. There is no limit to how grand a new development could be, the property estate will enhance any development, elaborate or other. There is not another beach property to be found as magnificent as this one anywhere.

Amenities

Amenities on the estate include two 25,000-ltr stainless steel water storage tanks between which a pump house is situated and that pumps water to an 8,000-ltr header tank which provides constant water pressure to the property, a wood shed for servicing the wood stove in dwelling one and a natural wood burning outdoor barbeque. There is a rustic cook house that is by no means flash but it provides great atmosphere when groups gather for a barbeque type cook-up and a workshop garage where property maintenance equipment and a vehicle can be housed.

Location

The estate is at the Eastern end of Garden Road which rambles past the Lily and Duck Pond then ends at the Nikau Grove bush walk that loops around the Waitakere ranges and comes out at the Southern end of Piha Beach. About a two hour walk if you want to go the full distance. A lot of people just do the walk alongside the stream, up to the first lookout then back. The property itself has a 5 minute flat walking track to the beach or a five minute drive will also get you there. The land actually protrudes up into the hills behind and a walking track on the property leads to a lookout over the almost entire beach.
